London is one of Europe’s largest and most cosmopolitan cities so it’s no small wonder that tourists are keen to explore the areas around it.
London’s weather is notorious for being unpredictable and first-time visitors to London are often unsure of what they should take along on a vacation. The weather generally fluctuates between 23° F (-5°C) in winter and 87° F (31°C) in summer. This means that winters are generally cold, though not completely freezing, and summer days can sometimes be pleasant. There are rare occasions when snow falls but expect rain all year round.
Try to buy clothing once you’re in London rather than bring clothing with you from where you’re travelling. It may also be cheaper to do so.
Wear non-tourist clothing that keep you warm
Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable but stay away from the ‘typical tourist’ look: this look makes you an easy target for robbers. Jeans, T-shirts, coats, and comfortable shoes should be sufficient for most trips to London. Try to get waterproof shoes if you can so that your pants won’t get soiled by mud and water while walking around.
The best thing you can do is to wear your clothing in a couple of layers. Wear the lightest items underneath the bulkier options such as jerseys and overcoats. This will help you to shed the heavier items during the course of the day, or when the weather suddenly changes from cold to warm.
Stay indoors when it’s cold outside
Most places will have central heating inside so you’re at least assured of staying warm when you’re indoors. You can probably get away with skimpy tops (women) and shorts if you’re a guy. However, it is important to know that not everyone heat their homes as much as other nationalities do. So it’s a good idea to bring something warm along when paying other people a visit.
