A couple of few back it was revealed that more than half of the 22 jewellery stores around the US were selling fake, or ‘fool’s gold’ and passing it off to unwitting customers as the real thing. If you are looking to receive gold for cash, you may want to make sure it is real first. The best and most reliable way to find out is to take it to a jeweller and have it professionally tested. But this is not usually a free service. If you prefer, they are certain home tests you can perform to ensure that you get the right amount of cash for your gold. Your down duvet also needs a change
There are some that claim that a change is as good as a holiday. Does this apply to inanimates as well as humans? The answer is inconclusive but the hypothesis is that yes, all sorts of duvets (down duvets, feather duvets, wool duvets) also need a change every so often. This is good for them and it’s good for the duvet covers: it allows the duvet cover to ‘breathe’ a bit and similarly it allows the duvet a break from any particular cover.
There are various ways that this change can be effected but not all these methods are equally effective. Some people struggle to change the duvet – the material and corners may present too much effort. Here’s a primer on how to get the best change out of your duvet.
The first step is to clear the bed of everything that will go into the wash. This can be covers, sheets and pillowcase covers. This task ensures your bed be free from obstacles. It is even more important to do this if you have a large bed.
The second step has to do with the duvet itself. It’s possible that there are a few schools of thought on this issue but there’s one method that gives the best results: turn the duvet cover inside out. This may sound strange to someone who is not used to this particular method but it works wonderfully.
Steps 3 and 4 need some co-ordinating skills that are absent from the first two steps. Grab onto the duvet’s two corners that correspond with the two corners of the duvet cover. Match up everything to where it is supposed to be but try to keep a firm grip on the duvet’s corners. If everything is done correctly the duvet should easily fall into place.
Step 5 might require help from someone: this is where the duvet needs to be pulled into place. The other option is to shake the duvet into place. This ensures ease of manoeuvrability and it also ensures it is easy to close all the buttons or poppers. A final shake may be a good idea as this smoothes out any bumps.
The final step is to enjoy a well-deserved rest in your bed that now sports a down duvet in a fresh duvet cover.

Who shops online?
Now that the internet has celebrated 3 decades with us, more and more people are starting to buy the majority of the goods and services they consume online. Some do it via the device du jour, which can be a sleek tablet or a smart phone that outshines the tablet; others prefer to use the computer they learnt how to code on back in the previous century.
Some have perfected the art of organising their entire life through a technology that few of us know how to live without.
There have been numerous studies that tried to analyse how many Brits do their online shopping at stores such as The White Company. Most of these studies find that the average person who prefers to have their purchases (accessories, furniture, or clothing) delivered to their house is a woman. This woman is often between the ages of 25 and 55 and they do not only order their groceries through this channel – they order many other consumer products in this way: clothing, home accessories, even furniture.
These women are among a growing percentage of people who realise just how convenient, easy and fun the internet is or can be. There are also a growing percentage of people – silver surfers – who are in their late 50s or early 60s, though their ages can reach as high as the 80s or even 90s, who have discovered just how much the new technology can benefit their lives.
There are a number of different reasons why people prefer to frequent shops such as The White Company via the company’s website instead of driving or ambling down to the High Street. The most cited reason is to avoid traffic, queues or people. Another reason that ranks nearly as high as the first is that it is more convenient. These two reasons seem to be intertwined, though: avoiding traffic not only saves money but it also means being able to buy from the comfort of your patio, lounge or bedroom that overlooks a garden.
Shops such as The White Company have created a shopping environment that is pleasant to linger in. This makes it enjoyable to shop with these companies.
