Many people decide to get their pets pet insurance and then nothing ever happens to make them claim – the pet is risk-averse. This is a good thing for both the pet and their companion. But sometimes, however, something happens that prompts the pet to not only get involved in some wee accident, but also to win a prize for their daring behaviour.
Some insurance companies hand out prizes to the pet insurance claims that made them chuckle the most during the course of the year. Many of these elicit much laughter – in sympathy, of course.
The doggy who bit a chainsaw won a prize for the most unusual pet insurance claim in 2009. The 2-year-old decided to chasten a buzzing chainsaw but got a little bit too close. The result: two holes in its upper lip.
One other insurance claim came from a pet owner in Los Angeles. The Labrador ate a beehive that contained a fair amount of pesticides, never mind the many dead bees. This doggy also got an award for the most unusual pet insurance claim. Her owner told the media that she loves to eat anything and everything she can, so her eating the beehive didn’t come as too much of a shock to them. Her owner had to send her and her upset stomach to a veterinarian.
Not all animals who stood in line for the prize of most unusual insurance claim are disciplinarians or adventurous eaters. Some of them are just a little too over-eager in certain respects.
One such animal, an Alaskan malamute, was hoping to scare a cat who was dozing in the sun. It’s a pity that she didn’t see the window pane in front of the kitty and that she had to endure several stitches afterwards.
It’s a good fortune that these pets and their owner had insurance.
