How to tell if gold is real

September 28, 2010 by Mary Smith

A couple of few back it was revealed that more than half of the 22 jewellery stores around the US were selling fake, or ‘fool’s gold’ and passing it off to unwitting customers as the real thing. If you are looking to receive gold for cash, you may want to make sure it is real first. The best and most reliable way to find out is to take it to a jeweller and have it professionally tested. But this is not usually a free service. If you prefer, they are certain home tests you can perform to ensure that you get the right amount of cash for your gold. South Africans and online poker

September 28, 2010 by Mary Smith

A great majority of South Africans have loved gambling since the first time they were introduced to it. More specifically, they’ve always loved playing poker and other types of games that require a combination of perseverance, charm and skill. There have been, however, many struggles in the years since South Africans became card-carrying members of the digital revolution.

Some circles still revile online poker, for whatever reason that may be. ‘Regular’ gambling pours R6 billion into the tax coffers of the government every year. There is reason to think that online poker, if it becomes legal, could also add a substantial sum of money to this economy.

The South African Poker Association has existed since 2004 and they have given the online poker industry in SA a great deal of clout: the organisation abides to rules that bind all poker organisations throughout the world. This ensures responsible gaming because organisations that can boast the SAPA stamp of approval has proved their worth – they need to pass certain tests to ensure that they will uphold the good name of the parent organisation.

They are but one organisation that is working to better the perception of online poker among South Africans. This is good news for all on the continent because there is so much potential: income creation, revenue, skills creation, and many more.

This is good news to people such as Raymond Rahme, who have been excelling at ‘regular’ poker on an international level for a number of years. He and other people find a certain amount of joy and satisfaction in playing online poker at whichever their favourite site may be.  They often start out playing poker as a pastime and this eventually progresses to a more full-time occupation, whether they make a living out of it or not.

Your down duvet also needs a change

September 28, 2010 by Mary Smith

There are some that claim that a change is as good as a holiday. Does this apply to inanimates as well as humans? The answer is inconclusive but the hypothesis is that yes, all sorts of duvets (down duvets, feather duvets, wool duvets) also need a change every so often. This is good for them and it’s good for the duvet covers: it allows the duvet cover to ‘breathe’ a bit and similarly it allows the duvet a break from any particular cover.

There are various ways that this change can be effected but not all these methods are equally effective. Some people struggle to change the duvet – the material and corners may present too much effort. Here’s a primer on how to get the best change out of your duvet.

The first step is to clear the bed of everything that will go into the wash. This can be covers, sheets and pillowcase covers. This task ensures your bed be free from obstacles. It is even more important to do this if you have a large bed.

The second step has to do with the duvet itself. It’s possible that there are a few schools of thought on this issue but there’s one method that gives the best results: turn the duvet cover inside out. This may sound strange to someone who is not used to this particular method but it works wonderfully.

Steps 3 and 4 need some co-ordinating skills that are absent from the first two steps. Grab onto the duvet’s two corners that correspond with the two corners of the duvet cover. Match up everything to where it is supposed to be but try to keep a firm grip on the duvet’s corners. If everything is done correctly the duvet should easily fall into place.

Step 5 might require help from someone: this is where the duvet needs to be pulled into place. The other option is to shake the duvet into place. This ensures ease of manoeuvrability and it also ensures it is easy to close all the buttons or poppers. A final shake may be a good idea as this smoothes out any bumps.

The final step is to enjoy a well-deserved rest in your bed that now sports a down duvet in a fresh duvet cover.
