Sleep is a very important factor in all of our lives. People need to sleep between six and eight hours every night in order to function at our highest levels. If a person does not receive the minimum hours of sleep a night, feelings of drowsiness and impaired reflexes follow.
There are numerous reasons why people do not sleep well and get the required sleep needed. Some of the reasons include insomnia, anxieties, depression, and stress. That being said, it should be fairly obvious that those who struggle to sleep may need a proper mattress.
In order for people to get a better night’s sleep, we need to get a proper mattress. Believe it or not, they are various types of mattresses that suit different people.
Tips for purchasing a mattress
Mattresses which are too soft or too hard will not offer the best night’s sleep. Hard mattresses can cause stiffness which results in an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Too soft mattresses can prevent toning of muscles while you sleep.
Types of mattresses
Air mattress
Air mattresses are made from vulcanised rubber with specialised air chambers keeping the air in. This provides support and the correct amount of comfort for a good night’s sleep. Air mattresses are great in that they provide just the right amount of firmness for a restful night’s sleep.
Water bed mattress
Waterbed mattresses come in a variety of styles to choose from and are made similar to the air mattress, except with heavier vulcanised rubber that can withstand the pressure of water. There are two types of waterbed mattresses: softside and hardside.
Softside waterbed mattress styles
This mattress comes in three styles – shalowfill, midfill and deepfill.
Shallowfill: Shallowfill waterbed mattresses have the lowest depth of water, with about 3.5 to 4.5 inches of water filled into the mattress.
Midfill: Midfill waterbed mattresses have a medium water depth, about five to six inches of water in its chambers.
Deepfill: These hold the largest amounts of waters which is seven to eight inches.
Hardside waterbed styles
These mattresses come in three styles: free flow, semi-waveless and waveless.
Free flow: Free flow waterbed mattresses have no way to control the waves that occur while moving around on a bed.
Semi-waveless: These have waves that are controlled by pads which separate the water from the outer vinyl covering to help baffle the wave motion.
Waveless: Waveless waterbed mattresses feature a thicker pad which will help baffle the waves even further.
Waterbed mattresses are a good option, especially for people who suffer from bedsores and other ailments that require a low pressure on the body’s surface. These mattresses also assist in alleviating aches and pains in your joints. However, it could have the opposite effects on some people’s joints as well.
Feather Topper Mattresses
Feather topper mattresses are ideal for those who suffer from allergies. These mattresses are usually made from 10 percent white duck down and 90 percent new duck feathers.
All of these mattresses come in a variety of styles and prices, so it really depends on how much you are willing to pay.
