Rabbits have never declined in popularity: they’re cute, clean, and active and are an ideal pet for children. If you’re looking to buy a new rabbit hutch for a new rabbit or just treat your existing pet, then you need to know what kind of environment rabbits are happiest in.
A happy rabbit is an exercised rabbit, so if you’re wary about letting your rabbit run around free in your garden because of roaming foxes or the neighbour’s dog (or the very real possibility of them burrowing away to freedom!), then a large rabbit hutch with an attached run is an ideal solution. Rabbits need plenty of exercise and love exploring the outdoors, so with an enclosed run you can also have peace of mind that they’re safe from any danger, too. They’re also very cute to watch when they are exploring their new world.
Rabbits also love to have their own private rest and bedding area – or somewhere to hide. It’s very important that your rabbit hutch has a closed off, large area for them to sleep in. They don’t mind eating outside in the run, but they will always sleep curled up in the darkest, safest place – after all, rabbits live underground in the wild and this is where they feel safest. A rabbit hutch that mimics a warren with a dark sleeping space with an entrance and exit “hole” to the outside world (and some juicy grass) will be rabbit heaven to your pet.
Many retailers are better understanding the particular needs of rabbits and there are now many larger, bespoke huts on the market. If you have the space, buy the biggest you can afford to properly give your rabbit room to roam, especially if you have more than one rabbit or plan to get more in the future.
